Frequently Asked Questions
What is neurodivergent-affirming therapy?
It is therapy that is catered to each individual who thinks differently. We meet each client where they are at in life and do not ask them to be anyone other than themselves. The focus of therapy is on self-acceptance, building coping skills, and reducing masking or behaviors that feel less natural. We put more emphasis on how your brain is built to work for you and build on strengths you already have.
Do you work with adults with ADHD?
Yes in fact some of our clinicians have ADHD as well and can work with you from a lived experience as well as a professional one.
Can I receive therapy after a late autism diagnosis?
Yes, most of the work done around late diagnosis is figuring out what accomidations might be helpful in your daily life that might have added to stress or burnout that was hard to see before. Or it could be exploring how it plays a role in communication with others in your life. There are many different goals and areas to explore with a late diagnosis, but in many ways it can be validating to have a name for a lived experience.
What if I'm self-diagnosed?
We are fully accepting of self-diagnosis as we understand how hard it is to find places that provide testing, coverage by insurance companies for the assessments, and the cost of a full range of assessments.
Do you provide virtual therapy?
Yes, we have clinicians licensed in multiple states, so we provide virtual therapy to provide access to more clients. We also understand that being in a new location can be overstimulating for some and being in your own space might be preferred or a lack of transportation is not always available.
What insurance do you accept?
We accept most major insurances, however if yours is not one of those listed we can provide a superbill for out of network benefits.
What happens during the first session?
During the first session we will cover all initial paperwork and get a general knowledge of your history to create a treatment plan to figure out what is the best plan of action to help you moving forward. This is also an opportunity for us to start to get to know each other. For children or teen clients parents or caregivers will be met with to get a full history before meeting alone with the child or teen to best cater the sessions to their individual needs. For older children they can be present for this process and younger children will be brought in at a later time due to attention span and information that is gathered from the parents. The second portion of the session will be introduction to the therapist and play materials/ play room depending on if it is online or in person session. For older children and teens it is up to them if they would prefer an activity or to just talk for their first session to get to know their therapist and feel more comfortable.
